Where We Have Been - United Kingdom
With a significant portion of both our ancestors coming from the United Kingdom, the UK was somewhere we’d tried to get to a number of times. The first time, David’s work commitments meant we had to cancel relatively close to our departure date. The second time, one of our parents was seriously ill. And finally—third time lucky—we made it.
On our trip to the UK (Britain, Scotland (we so love Scotland) and Wales) we met relatives we had never had the pleasure to meet before and visited David’s Mum’s parent’s graves. Our stops included Avebury, Bath (where Bridgerton was being filmed so we couldn’t see much but we did visit the ancient Roman Baths), Cardiff, historic London (London and Tower Bridges, Natural History Museum, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Thames Barrier, Tower of London and much more and as you do we strolled the Mall to Buckingham Palace (no invitation for tea and scones unfortunately)), Oxford, Wells, York (birthplace of Guy Fawkes) and Edinburgh (any city that places a dogs grave, Greyfriars Bobby, in a cemetery is close to our hearts), the Falkirk Wheel (a true marvel), the Kelpies as well as visits to numerous castles (including Doune Castle (where much of Monty Python and the Holy Grail was filmed), Edinburgh Castle (with its dog cemetery), Eilean Donan (where the opening scenes of one of our favourite movies, Highlander, was filmed) and Stirling Castle), Lallybroch, also known as Broch Tuarach which is really Midhope Castle (Carolyn is a big Outlander fan and this wasn’t the only Outlander related stop), Stonehenge (of course, a magical place to experience especially as the sun rose) and last, but by no means least, Culloden (the end of the Highlanders and a very moving place)

We’ve been lucky over the years to travel more than many—though nowhere near as much as we still aspire to. The world is a big place, and there are so many destinations left to discover: places we haven’t seen yet, places we want to explore more thoroughly, and old favourites we can’t wait to reconnect with.
Elsewhere on Crows on the Go, you’ll find:
• more about our travels and the places we’ve been
• our thoughts (and, in some cases, tips) on those destinations
• the places that have become “special” to us
• and more!
